Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaker. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the site with videos and guest posts analyzing the portrayals of females in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit educational website which explores the representations of females in narratives from popular culture. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is the main goals of her work. But, she also explores the issue of targeted harassment against women online and other minorities that are excluded. Sarkeesian, who holds a Master's in the field of Social and Political Thinking at York University, is a popular public speaking. She has given speeches at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. Interested in issues concerning gender identities and feminisms from an early age she launched her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while she was still at University. This ambitious woman planned to create an online series on the gender roles in games and was then the victim of an online campaign to harass her. However the attack could have been a hindrance, rather it was a boost to her determination as a feminist media critic. In recognition of the many contributions she has made to feminist movements, she has been awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit focused on the portrayal of women within pop cultural narratives.
